Katy Perry was named Billboard’s “Woman of the Year” and honored at the 2012 annual “Billboard Women in Music” luncheon on Friday, Nov. 30 in New York City.

She told Billboard magazine, “When I heard, I was very honoured. I was also a bit surprised because I thought my year was over! Especially with ending the tour last year, but it’s nice to see that it’s been extended. It does feel like this record has never ended!”

“It’s nice, I really appreciate it. I like to be viewed as a strong woman and I think that’s what Billboard is basically saying.”

She also added, “I don’t really like to call myself a role model for my fans. I hope that I am an inspiration for them, especially young women. My mantra, especially for the ['Part Of Me'] film, was: If you believe in yourself, you can be anything.”

It’s been a successful year for Katy Perry. The “Teenage Dream” singer has had completed a 12-month, 124-date tour in 2011 as well as releasing her first ever concert movie in 3D titled Katy Perry: Part Of Me.

The magazine also named Carly Rae Jepsen as this year’s Rising Star.

Jepsen described her smash hit “Call Me Maybe” as “sort of the key to unlocking the rest of the world for me” and “something that none of us were expecting.”

Katy Perry is reportedly ‘was offered $20 million to be an ‘American Idol‘ judge,’ but turned it down, TMZ reports.

The ‘Wide Awake’ singer has reportedly rejected the offer to judge the hit singing competition. She would have been earning more than the newest confirmed ‘idol’ judge, Mariah Carey.

Sources close to the production tell TMZ … “Idol” pursued Perry relentlessly for weeks, eager to get her to sign on the dotted line. According to our sources, they started the offer at $18 million, but threw even more cash on the table … $20 MILLION for a one year contract!!!

We’re told Katy made it clear … she was NOT interested and money wasn’t the issue.

Sources tell us … aside from the fact that Katy’s schedule made it impossible to do the show … she just didn’t think it was right career choice for her.

In recent weeks, the list of possible replacements for departed judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler has grown long. Other names to enter the pool include rapper Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Nick Jonas but never confirmed by FOX on who will complete the panel. We will have to find out in the coming days so stay tuned.
