If “American Idol” wants Mariah Carey to become one of the judges, as rumors suggest, producers will have to double the money they paid Jennifer Lopez. This is according to Carey’s husband, Nick Cannon who was spotted by TMZ people and asked whether Mimi was entertaining the possibility.
With Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez both announcing their departure from Fox’s reality singing contest, it’s no secret that Idol bosses are now searching for new judges.
“I don’t know if they can afford Mariah Carey,” Cannon said. “That’s a lot of money. If they gave JLo $20 million, they might have to double that!”
While J.Lo’s actual salary has been the source of debate — TMZ said earlier this year she only received $12 million — Carey might have cause to play hardball. As Cannon points out, she’s got a new album coming out, and in the coming months, she’ll have promotion on her mind.
Responding to the question of whether Fox execs have already approached Carey, Cannon played coy.
“Everybody wanna talk to her,” he said.
