Mariah Carey is the New ‘American Idol’ Judge (CONFIRMED!)



Yup, the diva is in. Mariah Carey joins the judging panel for ‘American Idol, Fox programming chief Kevin Reilly said Monday, confirming a deal with the pop and R&B super star.

The 42-year-old singer will fill one of the seats Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have departed for season 12 of the show.

“As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol,” the number-one hit maker said in a statement.

“I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, ‘Triumphant,’ which will be out early next month. I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon.” Carey added.

Idol host Ryan Seacrest was among the first celebrities to tweet about the news:

Randy Jackson, who happens to be Mimi’s manager, will also be part of the show as judge.

As to who will fill the remaining seat, a number of names have been crawling the web, including “Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert, Nicki Minaj, Carrie Underwood or even Charlie Sheen, we will have to wait for the other judge to be announced as early as the coming week.
