American Idol winner Phillip Phillips sets July 4 National Mall Show. First concert after surgery



American Idol winner Phillip Phillips is set to perform at Washington DC’s star-studded July 4 Independence Day concert on the National Mall. Now that he’s recovering from his latest operation, the 21-year-old WGWG was able to set his comeback. It will be his first concert since undergoing a six-hour surgery to remove kidney stones on June 7.

Phillips added that he will performing the single ‘Home’ before the 300,000 fans who are expected to turn out at the July 4 show.

“It’s probably the biggest thing I’ve ever done besides American Idol. I’m just excited to get out there and do my first real live performance since everything that’s been going on,” he said.

The July 4 celebration will also include appearances by actor Matthew Broderick, country star Josh Turner, Smash’s Megan Hilty, composer John Williams and U.S. Olympic athletes. Tom Bergeron to host the Fourth of July concert, which will air from 8/7c on PBS.
